I'm going to try and motor through these showcases, but still give a genuine opinion based on at least a few decent rounds where I feel I have a good grasp on the hero of the day. This definitely happened with Bastion.

Extremely easy to pick up and play, he has decent damage from his recon gun mode, and incredible damage as his stationary turret mode. The transition from recon to turret is slow, but fair, and helps to balance him considerably. Add on the ability to heal himself on the fly with a little plasma torch on a swivel arm, and you have quite the versatile character. His ultimate also seems quite fair, while also being quite devastating if you can focus on a group of enemies. I managed to take out a few people as I got used to it, utilizing his increased mobility in his ultimate tank form, and saving shots to TRY and get what should have been sure fire kills if I could aim worth a damn.

Like I said though, he does not ever feel overly powerful. He's basically a big walking refrigerator box when it comes to his hit box. He moves very slowly, when not in his tank form, and is very vulnerable as a turret. Basically, he is not a tank, and not a kamikaze, but also not for the snipers out there. I found my most successful times with him were when I could find myself a nice corner, possibly around a choke point, set up shop as the turret, and wait for the enemies to pop in my sights while chasing my team mates back, trying to strafe my team mates, or picking them off as they tried to stall our payload. In this way, sure I was not the biggest direct contributor, but I managed to assist team mates on the run, control points in danger of being over run and losing control therein, or simply keeping the payload on our side/moving while my team regrouped.

And hey, he has a cute little bird that makes you empathize with him. Reminds me of someone....
